Injectable peptides for hair growth: legal status and evidence.
Short answer
Research-use shops sell BPC-157, GHK-Cu and TB-500 in vials for hair. None is FDA approved for any use, and we found no trial in people that shows any of them grows hair.1 The approved option finasteride starts at $25 a month at the online clinics we track (Strut Health).2
Which injectable peptides are sold for hair?
The hair vials we see at research-use shops are BPC-157, GHK-Cu and TB-500. They come as a powder in a vial, meant to be mixed with water and injected. The label says they are for research, not for people.
They are not approved medicines. A medicine needs FDA approval first: its maker sends trial data, and the FDA checks that the benefits outweigh the risks.12 Nobody has done that for these peptides.
What is their FDA status?
From our database, with the FDA page behind each one:
- BPC-157: Not approved: its nomination for pharmacy compounding was withdrawn.3 78 shops we track list BPC-157; the middle price across their listings is $5.95 per mg.4
- GHK-Cu: Not approved: its nomination for pharmacy compounding was withdrawn.3 76 shops we track list GHK-Cu; the middle price across their listings is $0.65 per mg.4
- TB-500: Not approved: its nomination for pharmacy compounding was withdrawn.3 75 shops we track list TB-500; the middle price across their listings is $6.65 per mg.4
The FDA lists BPC-157 among the substances that may be risky in pharmacy-made medicines: it may set off an immune reaction when given some ways, and there is little or no safety information on it in people.3
In July 2026 the FDA's advisory committee on pharmacy compounding reviewed BPC-157 and TB-500: FDA advisory committee reviewed it for compounding on 23 Jul 2026; FDA proposed not to allow it.11 Our guide Is BPC-157 legal? explains what that review means.
Is there any evidence they grow hair?
Not in people, as far as we could find. The hair study quoted for copper peptides was done on follicles in a dish, with AHK-Cu, a close relative of GHK-Cu.13 The studies on BPC-157 are in animals and cells.3
A study in a dish or in mice tells you what a substance does to cells. It does not tell you what an injection does to your hair, or what it does to the rest of you.
A price per mg does not tell you either. It says nothing about what is in the vial: a lab report covers one batch, tested once, and only if a lab outside the shop did the test. Our guide on how to read a COA shows what to look for. Our best peptides for hair growth guide puts these vials next to serums, biotin and the approved options.
What has the FDA said to the shops?
Of the 172 FDA warning letters on our letters page, 20 went to research-use peptide shops.5 Each letter names the products and the claims the FDA objects to; you can read it in full on fda.gov.
A warning letter is the FDA's formal notice, not a court ruling.14 Our guide on what an FDA warning letter means explains what follows one.
What do the approved options cost at online clinics?
Finasteride 1 mg is FDA approved for hair loss in men.15 Minoxidil on the scalp is approved too, and sold without a prescription.16 Minoxidil tablets are a blood pressure medicine; for hair, a prescriber decides whether they fit you.17
| Clinic | Plan | What it is | Per month | FDA letter | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strut Health | Oral Finasteride | Finasteride, FDA approved for hair loss | $252 | FDA letter 20 Feb 2026 | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Keeps | Oral Minoxidil | Minoxidil tablet, a blood pressure medicine | $306 | none | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Keeps | Minoxidil+ Spray | Pharmacy-made mix, not FDA approved | $457 | none | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Happy Head | SuperCapsule Finasteride + Minoxidil + Vitamin D3 | Pharmacy-made mix, not FDA approved | $63.208 | none | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Happy Head | SuperSolution Finasteride + Minoxidil | Pharmacy-made mix, not FDA approved | $79.209 | none | 31 Oct 2026 |
| Happy Head | Topical Solution + SuperCapsule Finasteride + Minoxidil | Pharmacy-made mix, not FDA approved | $126.4010 | none | 31 Oct 2026 |
Pharmacy-made mixes, such as finasteride and minoxidil in one capsule, are not themselves FDA-approved products.18 A clinic with an FDA letter is still listed: the letter is public record.
None of this is medical advice. A doctor or dermatologist can tell you which option fits your hair loss.
